My problem is with particular parts of this initiative by Yossi Beilin - the parts which use religious terminology such as conversion and rabbis.Emmanuelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02270751138155111328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455383.post-41653936027600405732007-02-16T18:40:00.000+02:002007-02-16T18:40:00.000+02:00Thanks for your comment over at my soapbox. It's also allowed my to find back your interesting blog...

One point:

"But the idea of turning secularism into another Jewish religious movement is absurd."

In a broader context at least, I think you're quite wrong on this. Atheists/agnostics (I'm more the latter than the former) constantly get told that their position is just another faith. This is even more true when these secular people get organised: then their movement is castigated as a another "church".

Secularism isn't a faith: not believing isn't another belief-system. As an agnostic I believe in a lot of concepts that cannot be defined easily ("love", "my wife", "science" etc) but my agnosticism/atheism isn't a religion at all.Gerthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07752117708821629614noreply@blogger.com
